Learning to drive has, in the past few years, become a considerably more difficult and demanding exercise than it previously was. To gain a full Driving Licence, you must;

  • pass the Theory Test - a comprehensive multiple choice exam testing your theoretical knowledge of road craft, road signs & markings and safety;

  • pass the Hazard Perception Test - a computer based exam in which you have to respond appropriately to potential hazards in a selection of short videos;

  • pass the Practical Driving Test - in this test you will be assessed on your ability to control the vehicle you are driving whilst giving due regard to the safety of yourself, your passengers and all other road users (this includes pedestrians and cyclists!). You will also be asked questions testing your knowledge of how to perfofrm certain checks on the condition and safety of various components of your vehicle.

Driving is not just a skill for life, but it is skill that can be used throughout your life. Whether used in a personal or professional capacity, it can offer an unparalleled freedom of movement. Being a full licence holder can be a great benefit when a young school or college leaver is taking his/her first steps into the professional world. There are many occupations that necessitate the holding of a full licence.

Driving is fun and liberating - however, if not done properly and safely, it can become very dangerous. It is therefore vitally important that a new driver learns good, safe techniques in all aspects of driving and road craft, including manoeuvring, third party awareness, consideration of prevailing conditions, vehicle safety and environmental responsibilities.
